Threaded Drivers?

Is there an adapter made to allow a threaded horn to use a standard 2 bolt 1" Altec driver?

I see 1-3/8" threaded spec's and wonder if this is OD or ID?

I have only used Altec, JBL and Emilar bolted drivers, so no experience with threaded horns/drivers...

Appreciate any help.

What you need is a Selenium ADM 25-25.
SELENIUM - ADM25-25 - Horn Adaptor

I think they're available from a number of different suppliers.... (Parts Express, etc)....should do the job.

Thanks for that link to P Audio Old Guy....I'll get some of those for my K55's....I don't really like the Selenium ones, as they are a plastic material (but you have to use what you have available) & have been searching for some better aluminium ones.

The Selenium ones I have are aluminum, and they look identical to the ones in the pics.

I think the Selenium female threaded one is plastic, it's a POS

Suspect that is where the confusion is. AFAIK the male is metal

For some reason in the US it seems you can only get the PC-35

I concur one is and one is not, forget which is which though.

The ones I bought to mate K-55 w/511b were plastic if that helps. Had to drill (2) mounting holes, no big deal.

The metal ones, may not even have been aluminum. I'd thought potmetal when I first unpacked them.

That would be the female threaded one

You will pay a 5 spot or so more for the Paudio but it's metal and has JBL 3 bolt and Altec 2 bolt patterns

Selenium is fond of "injection molded aluminum" they use it a lot

I don't think the selenium is as sturdy...my opinion

Carl, I don't think the 1-3/8" 18 TPI dimension correlates to any pipe standard, though it's certainly OD. The threads are non-tapered, and the "snout" bottoms out in the horn. There may be a standard conduit fitting that could "work".

Do any of the threaded adapters have internal expansion, or are they a fixed ID throughout? The only one I ever used was on a Leslie, where the flare rate is already scr... uhmm... less-than-optimal.

Just wondering if it might not be better to use some of the newer threaded drivers (like B&C) that allow uninterrupted expansion to a threaded horn, than to throw a kink in the works with an adapter?

If you are looking at threaded drivers...look at the selenium 220

I know of at least 20 folks who replaced their cheapie thread on JBL's, and it's night and day...the selenium wins by miles..

They CAN be crossed as low as 1200 BUT power handling goes way down...it's 80 at 1600, probably only 30 or so at 1200.

I'm on record as not liking titanium frams. Mostly, it's when titanium breaks up.

And titanium doesn't make a good surround.

Selenium puts ridges in the fram to stiffen it so it doesn't break up, or at least breaks up less. And mylar surround.

The best part? 45 bucks new. Cheap frams too,

It ain't a tangerine 808. I might put it against an 807 though. It's bandwidth is shifted upward like the ceramic Altecs...won't go as low as the 807 but goes higher...

You can get a better sounding driver...but for 3x the price.
